Papers may be set in the context of formal courses or self-directed learning; they may involve, for example, introductory programming, service courses, specialist undergraduate or postgraduate topics, industry-related short courses. We welcome submissions directed at issues of current and local importance, as well as topics of international interest. Such topics may include transition from school to university, articulation between vocational and university education, quality management in teaching, teaching people from other cultures, attracting and retaining female students, and flexible learning.

The program committee will select the papers to appear based on their potential to enhance learning outcomes in computing courses. All papers will be fully refereed using a double blind reviewing process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.

To submit a paper:
Ensure that it is a suitably anonymised pdf document. Go to www.easychair.org/ACE2008 (retaining the upper case for ACE). Follow the prompts to create an account, taking note of the secret word that you provide. When you receive a confirmation email, go to the link given in that email, repeat your secret word, complete your account details, and log in to EasyChair. Select New Submission and follow the prompts. Note that fax number is a required field. Authors without fax numbers may write something such as "none available". Take a reasonably careful look at the list of Categories and the list of Topics, and try to select the values that best suit your submission. Submit the paper.

Interest in Grid computing in Australia and internationally is rapidly growing, driven by real-world applications of increasing scale and complexity. Within Australia there are several grid infrastructures and work is underway to grid-enable applications in areas such as physics, astronomy, chemistry, geoscience, earth sciences and life sciences. Many e-Research initiatives are also underway including the Australian Government Department of Education, Science, and Technology (DEST) National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). Increasingly science, and research in general, cannot be undertaken without sophisticated ICT infrastructure – grid computing and e-Research – this symposium addresses research in these two areas: particular topics of interest include:

  • Grid Applications and e-Research
  • Grid Computing Middleware and Tools
  • Data Grids - Applications, Middleware, Data and Metadata Management and Integration
  • Grid Infrastructure - Experiences with Building, Managing and Using Grids
  • Grid Portals and Problem-Solving Environments
  • Grid Economy
  • Web Services
  • Semantic Web and Semantic Grid
  • Collaboration using the Grid and Access Grids
  • Performance Evaluation and Modelling
  • Next Generation Grid
The symposium is primarily targeted at researchers from Australia and New Zealand, however in the spirit of grid computing, which aims to enable collaboration of distributed virtual organisations, we encourage papers and participation from international researchers.
We expect to provide time for a panel session or group discussion on topics of particular interest.

The proceedings of the symposium will be published through the Australian Computer Society Conferences in Research and Practice in Information Technology (CRPIT) series, under the title ACSW Frontiers 2008. The proceedings are included in the ACM digital library. Papers will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 referees. Submitted papers should be at most 10 pages in length and conform to the CRPIT formatting style. Formatting instructions can be found at http://crpit.com/Authors.html Abstracts must be submitted via the symposium web site http://www.fit.qut.edu.au/ausgrid08/ by 26 August 2007. Full papers (in PDF form) should then be submitted by 2 September 2007.
